@yonε Technically there are a couple files with "Chrome" in the name in the original Netscape source release (Mozilla was a rewrite), but I'm not sure if it was extensively used as a common term back then. The commit I found is where the first formal chrome/ source tree in Mozilla started.

We used the term "chrome" in the source code to refer to everything in the window that was outside of the HTML area (menubars, toolbars, scrollbars, etc.) all the way back in version 0.x of Netscape in 1994.
