Matterhorn
The Matterhorn is one of the most iconic and popular mountains in the world. Its summit is an incredible 14,692 ft above sea level, making it one of the tallest in Europe. It has four steep faces, towering above fields of glaciers below and edged by steep ridges. The Mattertal Valley is shielded from rain and snow on three sides by 38 four-thousanders (meters), including the Matterhorn, which ensures an extremely dry climate, even at higher altitudes. The conditions are perfect for botanical rarities that only exist in this region. One of these is the Scheuchzer's Cotton Grass (foreground), which grows along the shores of Riffelsee: the fluffy, white balls are a type of sedge. Its cotton-like, spherical flower heads appear between June and August. I was lucky that they're still around in mid-September! 😊 I was curious to see what the AI Image Description Generator would say about this image; the feedback was, "This image is a photo-realistic CGI image of a mountain range and a lake in front of it." 😂😂😂 ******************* Death on the Matterhorn: Why climbers underestimate the danger | DW Documentary youtu.be/Dtc_avxS8oU ****************** Dear All, Thank you for your visit; I wish you a nice weekend! 🙏🍻
