IL PONTE DEL DIAVOLO Il ponte del Diavolo fu costruito a partire dal 1442, in pietra e sostenuto da due arcate per scavalcare il fiume Natisone. La sua esistenza è legata a una leggenda: anticamente i cittadini friulani si riunirono per trovare un modo per passare da una sponda all’altra del fiume, ma non trovando soluzioni invocarono il diavolo, che si offrì di aiutarli in cambio della prima anima che avrebbe solcato il ponte. Così egli costruì la struttura in una notte, con la collaborazione anche della madre che pose un masso nel fiume, su cui ancora oggi poggia la struttura. I cividalesi tuttavia riuscirono a raggirare il demonio facendo transitare per primo sul ponte un animale. In ogni caso, il ponte ebbe un tragico epilogo nel 1917, durante la disfatta di Caporetto, quando fu fatto saltare per rallentare l’avanzata nemica. Venne poi ricostruito in tempi brevi dai tedeschi, mantenendo la struttura antica.
