Software recommenders are usually people with solid, decent knowledge, but most true experts will often refrain from evangelizing any one software. If you cannot make an informed decision (which is the vast, *vast* majority of people, obviously) then you will always have to live with recommendations that turn out wrong (as opposed to your own decisions doing the same). The only way to win the game is not to play. Get a nice cottage, grow veggies; A surprising number of experts do.
