I tend to think that Dunbar’s Number is somewhat arbitrary bullshit when used as “more than this, things break down” but as a rule for “smaller than this, emotions can be very human(e)”… it feels more useful. (Though also “very human” is not necessarily good; lots of gossip and grudges are bundled in there as well.)

Part of the sadness a lot old-school foss people carry with them is that we liked these small, human(e) groups; and we have no idea how to recapture that very positive, human energy while simultaneously meeting the responsibilities of being a load-bearing part of the infrastructure of the entire world economy.
