2025 Gardening - Sowing Oats and Barley

Out gardening today, which I realise was a bad idea after donating blood, I should be resting.
Aaaaaanyway; this was rotavated last week, so we just spent time raking out clumps of grass and other plants like Lady's Mantle.
We sowed my old stash of oat an some Bere Barley from Seeds of Scotland. Some rogue wheat in with the oats were strewn too.
It's covered with some mesh to try and reduce munching by birds but we'll see how many survive.
The seed is a few years old, so many might not germinate.

A black wheel-barrow with drying lumps of grass sits beside a large patch of dark soil, 1.5 metre wide by several meters long. A few rocks and bits of wood hold down some mesh, both plastic and wire, which is atop the soil where the seeds were sown. The chicken run is in the background with the pallet wind-break.
