I've seen some people arguing that AI companies shouldn't be held responsible for copyright infringements, saying that this would be like car manufacturers being held responsible for people breaking the speed limit in their cars.

But I can't help thinking that this is a fake analogy - a more accurate one (IMO) would be that AI companies are selling cars that have been built using car parts from stolen cars. And everyone would agree who should be held to account for that.
