We should not fool ourselves, thinking that in Europe we are better. The Dutch government is already following the same steps:

“The Netherlands is halting all aid in the areas of women's rights, gender equality, vocational and higher education, sports and culture. Aid in the areas of climate, civil society and multilateral cooperation is also being cut back significantly”
