@ianthetechieIan Wagner the most extreme example for me was when I tried installing I think it was NetBSD on my Amiga 1200. I tinkered for weeks (looking stuff up on the pre-web internet (gopher / irc) in the computer lab after class) and finally reaching the conclusion that I needed a 68882 coprocessor or it would never work. I didn’t have the cash for that so I finally gave up.
