hey, USian/Mexican decolonial peeps on fedi, especially indigenous or poc, can i ask you something?

i have been having a political discussion with my friend about whether or not texas actually belongs to usa or it's a land that belongs to mexico, and i realized i know little about this piece of us history, so i want to ask people who know better than i do what is actually true or not.
