Back in 1999, Bill Gates said that the popular open source operating system Linux was no threat to Windows. He said that Windows offered far more functionality and features than Linux ever would. He argued that Linux lacked a central point of control, as well as the protection, rich set of drivers, and GUI that businesses need.
