IBM to Acquire Confluent for $11 billion. The AI boom cycle continues. For those who don't know Confluent Cloud is their main biz which is a fully managed Apache Kafka clusters and serverless Kafka & ksqlDB. https://newsroom.ibm.com/2025-12-08-ibm-to-acquire-confluent-to-create-smart-data-platform-for-enterprise-generative-ai

They still have opensource version https://kafka.apache.org/ but I'm sure like RHEL they will start adding restrictions or stop sharing features/source code that made it popular among banks, fin-tech, telco, insurance and other enterprisey IT stuff.

IBM and Confluent, Inc. announced they have entered into a definitive agreement under which IBM will acquire all of the issued and outstanding common shares of Confluent for $31 per share, representing an enterprise value of $11 billion.
