VA Linux holds the record for the largest 1 day IPO gain, skyrocketing from $30 to $239.25 (a 698% jump) on December 1999. However, the hype quickly vanished as competitors entered the market and dot com boom crashed later on, causing the stock to crash to under $9 within a year. The company eventually abandoned hardware, renamed itself multiple times over the years.
