An example of missing the shot by a fraction of a second. I wasn't actually expecting to capture the geese coming in to land on the canal - I was trying to get the reflection of the contrail in the water.

A sunset with clouds near the horizon. The sun is behind some trees in the far distance and isn't directly visible. However it is turning the sky orange and is picking out an aircraft contrail which is reflected in the water of the canal immediately in front of us. Unexpectedly some geese are coming into land on the canal from our right. One is almost in the centre of the photograph but some others are just appearing at the right edge. The reflections of the geese are more prominent than our direct view of them as they contrast against the reflection of the sky. Some tree branches intruding from the top left provide symmetry to the photo, matching with the canal bank at the bottom left, and the clouds near the horizon almost match the shape of the far canal bank and the field leading to the horizon.
