FreeBSD 14.4 goes official!

FreeBSD 14.4 is now globally available for the general public! This version of FreeBSD aims to bring many improvements to the operating system and to the kernel to enhance your user experience.

The ISO images can now be downloaded using the below button. It will take you to the file list that lets you select what kind of image you want to download, in terms of architecture, install source, and image type.

FreeBSD 14.4 brings security fixes and other fixes to essential and other system components to ensure that both stability and security are guaranteed. It also introduces new features, such as, but not limited to:

  • OpenSSH has been upgraded to version 10.0p2 and now uses the hybrid post-quantum algorithm mlkem768x25519-sha256 by default.
  • OpenZFS has been upgraded to version 2.2.9.
  • Significantly improved cloud-init compatibility in nuageinit.
  • Bhyve virtual machines can now share a filesystem with the host via the new p9fs(4).
  • Significant improvements in manual page tooling and content.
