What's clear to me though, is that perhaps we never should have sought to use the proprietary protocol by the monopolist.

We put our efforts into pandering to our chosen clients needs to keep using the monopolists software. It's warped our hosting markets outside mere file sharing on our LANs.

It was my bread and butter.

But I yearn for different designs, different workflows.

I think what I'm doing now feels more meaningful. Because it's new, it's not pandering to the status quo.
