Our Faculty has appointed an Associate Dean for AI Strategy. I am unsure whether this is a good idea or not. The person appointed is no slouch, and not an AI researcher, but a data scientist (though they have managed a data science Master's degree to which AI was added at the last minute). I suppose a strategy is needed, though why it isn't "resist with every fibre of our being", I don't know.
