@simonSimon Willison History shows that companies didn't downsize their IT departments, they not only grew them, but also outsourced a lot of IT to SaaS firms funded by VCs. The relationship between productivity and employment was positive, but my ultra-simplified take on that is that more than just productivity was involved: We were also in the middle of capital chasing returns and we were in the middle of a major computing paradigm shift.
