I don't care about the details of any instance mod/admin drama. This would all be mostly unnecessary if your identity and posts weren't tied solely to a domain, thus entirely depending on whoever controls said domain.

The proposals and prototypes for portable identity and real portability of content are out there. But the @Mastodon devs don't seem to be interested, and the @swfSocial Web Foundation's E2EE project (which would necessarily cover user keypairs) ended with no real results AFAICS.
