Something to keep in mind those those at FediForum talking about CONTENT-ADDRESSING.

A very popular form of CONTENT-ADDRESS is using a DIGEST from a HASH-FUNCTION as the basis of the identifier.

BUT, there are non-hash-function forms of CONTENT-ADDRESSING, too.
