Another reason is that I want to see payments on the Fediverse in a native way.
So that you can, for example, send money to a Fediverse ID:

But, to do that safely, you need some level of guarantee (such as through public-key signatures) that you "＠joeblow＠example·com" is getting resolved to the right place.
