Interesting that OpenAI's browser is being built atop Chromium. One of the people who built Chromium, Ben Goodger, now works for OpenAI. He posted this just today: "While being part of the team that created Chrome in 2006-2008 was in so many ways a highlight of my career, the contribution I am most proud of is my advocacy for Chromium to be developed in the open, instead of source drops just being thrown over the wall from time to time." https://x.com/bengoodger/status/1943142695016554834
Goodger is a fellow kiwi, and I know he's one of the smartest browser technologists out there. So all that's to say: OpenAI is in a really strong position here, and is building off the open source technology Google brought into the world (sound familiar? see transformers!). I guess I wonder now if Google will try to turn Chrome into an "AI browser" too. I hope not, but I fear that is the direction they will go now.
