1/2 In the glory years of the blogosphere, much was made of bloggers needing to be opinionated and to write in a less formal voice than traditional media. If I look back to my 2003-05 posts, there’s a looseness to them — I think it was mostly endearing, but sometimes embarrassing (eg recalling my “Liv Tyler waved at me” post after the ‘Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King’ movie premiere in Wellington, Dec 2003). 2/2 But in the AI era, I am purposely going more ‘human’ again. Given the deluge of AI slop out there, the best way I can stand out as a journalist is to lean in even more on my humanity. To double down on subjectivity, draw on my human experiences and instincts, tap into my emotions and feelings, and convey my ‘soul’ in my writing (not to be too Dostoyevsky about it, but you get my drift). Over time, I hope the web - & Google - will reward this over all the AI slop that is getting published.
