one of the key ideas of a democracy is that protest and demonstrations important

1. to bring to the attention of government issues it might not be aware of, or care sufficiently about

2. for some of that activity to result in positive change, even if it is small and incremental

this is a pressure-release valve, a method of organic self-correction

by suppressing this, government are NOT becoming more stable, they are becoming less stable, as pressure and resentment and distrust builds to eventually explode in revolution.

this is basic politics theory, and I am no expert

these governments, including the UK, are foolish if they think banning speech and protests is making our country safer and more stable

(I first learned about this idea very late in life, from NN Taleb's anti-fragile concept)
