This cassette jumped out at me at an antique shop today.

Not because of the content. It's just someone's mixtape from 1988.

But I love that whomever made the tape then went over to their computer, loaded up a template or a dedicated piece of software, and printed out a custom j-card on their dot matrix printer. The future was now!

Side A of a Maxell UR90 cassette tape as viewed through the clear plastic of its case. The label on the tape itself is handwritten (It says "The Big Chill - Motown / You Light Up My Life", that it was recorded on May 7, 1988, and the Noise Reduction tickbox is ticked "yes"), but the tail of the printed J-card is visible on this side of the case.

The program or template that produced the J-card gave it lots of nice areas to fill in information about the recording. Both sides have a spot for a title (here and on the spine, both sides are listed as "Various Artists", but side B also says "You Lite Up My Life/Can't Slow"), and that the tape was recorded with Dolby C noise reduction and Bias/Eq High on 1988-05-08.
