Robinson Crusoe by D. Defoe was a banned book in the U.S. (at least in Arizona), and no one in my anthropology classroom, probably except for me and the professor, had read it before. Even my anthropology professor, who was visiting from the Netherlands, was shocked and said that the book contains some of the most important content in anthropology studies. The reason the book was banned is that it contains themes of slavery and racism. Sometimes, the way Americans respond to racism is nonsense.
