uspol, free speech
This is not about recent events, but an observation I've been thinking about a lot.
Free speech isn't a nebulous, abstract concept, even though some people carry on like it is.
It's quite simple:
- If you oppose people of color, queer folks, immigrants, or anyone else having the freedom to be disrespectful to you with their words, OR
- If you do not support the same freedom for sex workers
Then you are not a free speech advocate. You're a hypocrite.
Stochastic terrorism isn't free speech, it's tyranny with plausible deniability.
Furries defended free speech when we fundraised over $112,000 to protect a library in Mississippi from a bigot who made illegal censorship demands and threatened to withhold funding until they acquiesced. We said "no" to that.
Privacy and anonymity are related issues.
More states need Anti-SLAAP statutes.
We need stronger data privacy laws.
The EU needs to put an end to #ChatControl.
No one is free until everyone is free.
