This was around the time I transitioned to tech and mirrors the absolute nonsense I heard on my course, looking back it's wild to see this:

"between 30% and 60% of every university computer science department’s intake fail the first programming course"

Unaccompanied by any consideration that we might be fucking up how we were teaching it, lol

Reading this really made me think about how these stories get interpreted and amplified by influential voices. I know this is old, and has a very vague retraction note at the top, but it's a good example of just how much the poor claims get repeated while the counterevidence doesn't. I do not believe this is an "important phenomenon" nor a discovery. Grandiose characterizes the "retraction" language too. By the way can't retract something never published.
