사마귀 눈의 검은 눈동자 같은 것은 의동...이라고 번역해야 하나, pseudopupil이라고 하는데, 별도의 기능을 하는 조직이 아니고 그냥 겹눈을 보면 그 방향에서는 저만큼이 검게 보이는 것. 두 명이 다른 각도에서 사마귀 겹눈을 보았을 때 의동은 각각 다른 곳에 보인다.
