우루과이는 전국의 에너지 거의 전부를 재생 에너지로 쓰고 있고, 그 비용은 화석 연료의 절반이다. 기사에는 언급되어 있지 않지만, 이게 가능한 것은 우루과이가 중국에서 투자를 받고 거기서 태양광 및 풍력 기술을 싸게 사오고 있기 때문이다.
