movie spoilers

"Spring" is definitely here.

So far? I am not liking it.

Yesterday it was above 68°F (approximately 20°C)

Today? 78°F/25.5556°C

Predictions for tomorrow? 13°F higher so 91°F? (32°C)

It's still March!

2025 I think is supposed to be solar maximum in the sun's cycle too, so I expect it will only continue to get hotter and hotter.

This summer is presumably going to be scorching. ;(

I hit up a theater (for air conditioning, saw Alto Knights, meh) and waited until sunset to get dinner and do laundry.

Once I got to the laundromat, I noticed the burrito I ordered, fell out of my pocket?!

After I switched my clothes from the washer to the dryer I retraced my steps back to the bus stop: nada.

Amazingly, after completing my laundry, the bus I boarded? Same driver as before, the burrito which fell out of my pocket? On the seat where I had been sitting. I do not know what the odds of that are, but wow.

The last time I went to a theater I saw Locked. It was, meh as well. Strangely, one of the things that really rubbed me the wrong way was the down on his luck protagonist, munching on a burrito, but tossing it when he got to a parking lot to maybe steal some things from some unlocked cars? As someone who has also been in debt and desperate, wasting food is extremely rare for me. There may be times when there is some truly awful food I will throw out; but generally speaking I will typically hold onto edible food for later if it may be unappetizing in a moment. Something about that, to me, disconnect just caused me to lose any hope of suspending disbelief, and that was before the movie entered into wtfh territory.

The last decent movie I saw was The Actor, which had some really fantastic scene swipes and while focused on one individual, the cast was comprised of a number of performers who played multiple roles and seemed to excel in showing off their acting skills. Remember when The Simpsons was just a short segment during the Tracy Ullman Show? I had kind of forgotten about her since then, but she played I think at least three different characters in The Actor and they all seemed well portrayed.

On Wednesday もののけ姫「mono no ke hime」"Princess of Spirit" or more inaccurately bowdlerized in English as "Princess Mononoke" due to Harvey Weinstein/Miramax and Neil Gaiman's "treatment" (I did a fansub of this movie as an undergrad and am still a bit bitter that the freely shared fansub JACOsub script was far superior to the commercial dubbed garbage that got released commercially in the USA a year or so later) is getting a 4K "remastered" IMAX theatrical re-release. But: 35mm film (as I originally saw this in Japan) is actually higher effective resolution than 4K. Moreover, even at the AMC Metreon 16 in San Francisco (the second largest IMAX screen in the USA) it is just a "Laser" IMAX projection, which means it's really "LieMAX" nothing like a 70mm 15 perforation IMAX film projection.

TL;DR, it's probably just milking audiences for a 4K "remaster" which is probably going to be released on UHD/BluRay sooner than later (so far only Miyazaki's Lupin the 3rd: Castle of Cagliostro has seen a 4K/UHD BluRay release, but that is pre Studio Ghibli, so I am guessing the Studio Ghibli stuff is going to be a lot longer/delayed in getting those kind of home release "remasters"). I'll probably still go see it since I haven't watched it in theaters in a while, but only because I think the monthly fees I pay AMC mean it's included with my "A list" membership.

My hopes for it are very low and the theaters already look as if just about every seat is sold out already too. ;(
