This reads a lot as if you're moving goalposts.

The Open Whisper Foundation, has funding.

IIRC, Moxie (whom I know personally along with at least one other Signal dev) received something like $5 million as an individual once upon a time even before that?

Why should anyone rely upon 3rd party desktop clients if Signal themselves are still using Electron for their "desktop" app?

$5 million is more than the OpenBSD Foundation has ever received in a single year of donations AFAIK and they've got a lot of devs working on a lot more at that.

Also, re: "I am not aware of any alternative to Signal that genuinely addresses privacy concerns in the way that Signal does. I'd love to be pointed in the right direction."

SILC predates Signal by a significant margin and never made some of the mistakes TextSecure/RedPhone (the previous names for Signal; back when ioerror cajoled me into installing that bull it.sh) made from day 1, let alone years later after a lot of public outcry that still remain.
