/me notices 14 notifications and isn't even going to get into the 1800+ miles he drove recently or much else because he has other things to do before he can really pretend to be "social" even in what little that counts for online given other things he should be focusing on instead at the moment.
I will say I did end up seeing
@xorcist_band@mastodon.socialXorcist and Mentallo and the Fixer in Portland on Tuesday and that show was wonderful! I hope that last night's show in Seattle was great too! Also, apparently it was Gary Dassing's (the vocalist for M+tF) 56th birthday on the 7th?! Quite a lot going on for them!
My impression after the show and chatting with Gary and Dwayne for a little bit is that since they were invited to perform at Cold Waves in September (https://www.coldwaves.net/) and since they hadn't performed live in 19 years, this short but sweet west Coast tour kind of a way to get a little bit of preparation work done, grease the wheels as it were and get out some hiccups in advance? As Gary said during the set, "we didn't have any time to rehearse". Turns out he's been married for 33 years, and I didn't even get around to asking if he has kids; but I got the impression they've got a lot going on in their lives away from the stage, even though I was excited to hear that they are working on new material as well.
Dwayne basically got rid of their old backing tracks (paraphrasing) "because they were old" and reworked everything so their live set sounded radically different than the previous two performances I had seen live or any of their recordings. He chatted a bit about visiting Sequential while they were in the Bay Area (where Sarin of SF's club night dekonstrukt works) and some recommendations for improvements to gear he requested of Julio while opining about Dave Smith's passing.
An old friend from when we both lived in the Monterey area joined me and while he maybe undersold Dante's as a venue, I had a great time. It was a small venue and an enthusiastic crowd, which is totally my speed these days.
