Meanwhile, in news unrelated to anything in particular, nectarines and peaches and to a lesser extent, apricots are now the newest seasonal fruits grown locally in California that I am starting to see in markets!
Don't get me wrong, some mulberries had a very strong showing at a local farmer's market in Oakland a couple of Saturdays ago.
Yet I cannot overstate how delicious nectarines are to me, personally. Peaches are good too, sweet and juicy, but nectarines have none of that peach fuzz mouth feel to get in the way!
Apricots are a'ight I suppose, but given they seem to dry relatively well, less imperative than having fresh peaches and nectarines!
Nectarine season doesn't last long and while apples tend to be yummy in late summer and fall, and we have had a pretty varied citrus winter with some good eats, this is probably my favorite time of year given the availability of specific fresh fruits.
