reminded of the companies that used to mandate "pair programming"

telling themselves it was about quality, when it was always a combination of bosses wanting to look smart (adopting new trends), and trying to squeeze out as much work as possible from people (peer pressure)

every time a boss has told me which text editor to use, or how i need to move a keyboard and mouse, it's always the same thing

"i think i can extract 1.2x more lines of code a day" like i'm a citrus fruit

it is deeply funny that i have spent decades being told "you ain't gonna need it" or "keep it simple, stupid"

or even "the longer it takes to find a bug, the harder and more expensive it is to fix"

and now we're building software the same way people write yaml, pinching their nose, closing their eyes, and hoping the problem goes away if we just hit refresh
