2016∼2020년만 해도 이공계 대학원생은 연평균 0.7% 줄었지만, 2021∼2025년에는 한 해 평균 3.7% 늘며 증가세를 유지하고 있다.
석사 과정 학생은 2021년 4만6천542명에서 지난해 5만6천434명으로 1만명 가까이 뛰었고 박사 과정 학생은 4만1천100명에서 4만4천859명으로 3천명 이상 증가했다.
