At or around 2010, MDN was becoming a really good resource, but search engines were giving other noticeably worse sites higher ranking, so Chris Williams of JSConf US fame got our then little community together to try and out-page-rank w3csch**ls and we all put this logo with a link back to MDN on all the websites we had access to.

And it worked, yer welcome :)
