My bf and I watched an episode of TNG last night, in which Riker ordered a diagnostic with a numbered level, and my bf asked how they knew which level of diagnostic to run

I pulled up page 46 of the TNG technical manual and showed him where they describe what diagnostic levels mean

It's decently thorough

And that's something you could do with TNG/DS9/VOY-era Trek

They put some effort into the details, and you could geek out about them if you wanted to

@researchfairyThe research fairy Everyone on DS9 being frustrated with weird incompatibilities between federation/cardassian technology constantly causing downtime is one of my favorite bits that feels very very real. Sometimes O'Brien is an engineer, or a soldier, but hes frequently an exhausted system administrator.
