do i know any car enthusiasts who want to give advice on a car that has been sitting for about a year, but last started in November 6 months ago (jump started and idled fine for 30 minutes without driving more than a few meters), and that i now want to get a new battery for and bring to the shop?

I know the car won't be in good shape to use normally, but is it safe to attempt starting? if it starts, is it safe to drive it to a mechanic two miles away, or does it need to be towed there?

I've done some reading on the subject and understand the basic issues to watch out for such as stale gas and oil levels, but I'm trying to judge the risk of causing damage by driving it a short distance.
