I keep seeing confusion about what β€œopen source” actually means. It applies to the code and how you can use or extend a project.

Open source doesn’t entitle anyone to demand support, open issues, or get patches accepted. Maintainers are volunteers and have the right to accept or reject contributions, close issues, or ask people and companies to back off.

If you want more attention, fund the work. Financial support gives maintainers time and resources to focus on the project.
