Regarding compile times: First of all, obviously there is a cost of you have a check in the type system that check needs to be performed and that costs time.

Diesel offers several tools like feature flags and optional boxing that can improve compile times a lot. Additionally we‘ve done several changes to minimise the amount of generated code over the last years. That can give you a quite low overhead.
