Horizon EDA first impressions:

  • (+) it works!
  • (+) it's documented!
  • (-) it uses those awful GTK3 UI idioms. please no
  • (+) it's easy enough to do some very trivial stuff in schematic and layout while barely looking at documentation
  • (+) it's not aggressively hostile to my muscle memory
  • (+) the "pool" (library) feature seems really well thought out and implemented at a first glance
  • (-) there are barely any parts. the default pool doesn't even include a quad SPI flash!! that's such a completely basic thing
