I posit that they understand it perfectly. Better than most of us, even. Because not only do they know what's in it for them, but they know how to sell it to the rest of us suckers so that it seems shiny, while hiding the enormous personal benefits to the billionaire class. And that requires a deeper understanding, imo.

Or they're just idiots and suckers with too much money, I'm open to that too.
