Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

Hello everyone, after a week or two down the release candidate mines, we've emerged blinking into the light carrying with us #GoToSocial v0.18.0 Scroingly Sloth!

Please read the migration notes carefully for instructions on how to upgrade to this version. This version contains several very long migrations so you will need to be patient when upgrading, and backup your database first!!

Release highlights

  • Status edit support: one of our most-requested features! You can now edit your own statuses, and see instance edit history from other accounts too (if your instance has them stored).
  • Push notifications: probably the second most-requested feature! GoToSocial can now send push notifications to clients via their configured push providers.
    You may need to uninstall / reinstall client applications, or log out and back in again, for this feature to work. (And if you're using Tusky, make sure you've got ntfy installed).
  • Global instance css customization: admins can now apply custom CSS across their entire instance via the settings panel.
  • Domain permission subscriptions: it's now possible to configure your instance to subscribe to CSV, JSON, or plaintext lists of domain permissions.
    Each night, your instance will fetch and automatically create domain permissions (or permission drafts) based on what it finds in a subscribed list.
    See the domain permission subscription documentation for more information.
  • Trusted-proxies helper: instances with improperly configured trusted-proxies settings will now show a warning on the homepage, so admins can make sure their instance is configured correctly. Check your own instance homepage after updating to see if you need to do anything.
  • Better outbox sorting: messages from GoToSocial are now delivered more quickly to people you mention, so conversations across instances should feel a bit snappier.
  • Log in button: there's now a login button in the top right of the instance homepage, which leads to a helpful page about clients, with a link to the settings panel. Should make things less confusing for new users!
  • Granular stats controls: with the instance-stats-mode setting, admins can now choose if and how their instance serves stats via the nodeinfo endpoints. Existing behavior from v0.17.0 is the default.
  • Post backdating: via the API you can now backdate posts (if enabled in config.yaml). This is our first step towards making it possible to import your post history from elsewhere into your GoToSocial instance. While there's no way to do this in the settings panel yet, you can already use third-party tools like Slurp to import posts from a Mastodon export (see Slurp).
  • Configurable sign-up limits: you can now configure your sign-up backlog length and sign-up throttling (defaults remain the same).
  • NetBSD and FreeBSD builds: yep!
  • Respect users prefers-color-scheme preference: there's now a light mode default theme to complement our trusty dark mode theme, and the theme will switch based on a visitor's prefers-color-scheme configuration. This applies to all page and profiles, with the exception of some custom themes. Works in the settings panel too!

<p>Sometime yesterday my forum stopped receivng (or accepting?) new remote topics or posts. I'd spent time yesterday playing with plugins and permissions, so I've been rolling back those changes this morning, but it hasn't resulted in the resumption of content flow.</p> <p>The only thing the logs indicate is that the forum was receiving dislikes and didn't know how to handle them (at some point, I denied the federated user group the ability to downvote), but last night it just stopped complaining about this. I assumed at this point maybe I'd been spamming some kind of error at the other servers and got blocked or something, but I can still chat (two way) with my remote accounts, and remote accounts can see my posts on the forum. I don't receive any replies, though, weirdly enough, I do receive likes/upvotes.</p> <p>Are there other logs I should be looking at to make sense of this?</p>

Unwittingly attended the 200th at Hafan Pwllheli this morning. Mild and sunny, and the sand was a bit firmer than usual.

Met another runner also wearing Vibram FiveFingers. I forgot to ask her whether the first thing people also ask her about them is, "Are they comfortable?"

Somehow, in spite of having to take a 30 second walk break at 4.5km, I was faster than last time I was here. Then I came fourth... out of fifteen. No such luck today: twentieth.

The sky is light blue with clouds that can't decide whether they're fluffy or wispy.The finish. A pair of rows of orange cones in the sand with marshals either side. The bay curves out behind them to the horizon with dunes to the left and sea to the right. Two runners, a marshal, a small dog and a stray cone are to our right.

In eigener Sache:

Weil ich so dicke Finger habe, habe ich vor ein paar Tagen aus Versehen alle Verbindungen zu Accounts auf mastodon.social gekappt. Ich folge seither dort niemandem mehr, und dort folgt niemand mehr mir.

Das kam vermutlich so: Ich wollte einen einzelnen Account auf mastodon.social blockieren, habe aber die ganze Domain blockiert. Das habe ich zwar sofort rückgängig gemacht, aber da waren schon alle Verbindungen gekappt.

Zum Glück betrifft das nur mich und nicht die anderen User auf meiner Instanz fedifreu.de – der Fehler ist nicht im Moderations- oder Admin-Interface passiert, sondern nur mir als normaler User.

Um die Verbindungen zu meinen Leuten auf mastodon.social wiederherzustellen, werde ich jetzt eine 13 Monate alte CSV-Datei importieren, die die Accounts enthält, denen ich vor meinem letzten Umzug gefolgt bin. Wundert euch also nicht über das Hin und Her, sondern überlegt bitte, ob ihr mir (wieder) folgen wollt!

「萬歲(만세)」는 처음부터 皇帝(황제)에게만 쓸 수 있는 말이었을까요? 歷史書(역사서) 《史記(사기)》를 보면 「萬歲(만세)」의 用例(용례)는 戰國時代(전국 시대)에서부터 찾아볼 수 있습니다. 卽(즉), 皇帝(황제)라는 槪念(개념)보다 萬歲(만세)라는 말이 먼저 存在(존재)한 것입니다. 이때 萬歲(만세)는 「야호!」 程度(정도)로 기쁨을 表示(표시)하는 感歎詞(감탄사)였습니다.

笨笨，上周带你去看病，填写基本情况时，只有笼养鸟和卖家繁殖两种选择，我都没勾，我在其他那里写道：自来鸟。笨笨，你是我的第一只小鸟，9年前的8月28日，你飞到我家，从此我的肩膀上就多了一颗五颜六色的小芒果。作为一只鸟，你竟然跟脚，我走到哪里，你就跟到哪里，在我吐槽你好像一只狗的时候，你毫不留情给了我这个傲慢的人类一下子，以展示你作为恐龙后裔、祖上确实阔过的迅猛和骄傲；可是又在玩皮筋的时候因为不小心套住自己从桌子上摔了下去，我想，天呐好笨哦，怎么会有鸟自己忘了飞的，于是从那天起，你就是我的笨笨了。

笨笨，和你的昵称呼应，我给你取的玛丽苏小说名字叫做姬若愚，日本名字叫爱嗑瓜子，俄国名字叫做谁也打不赢斯基，因为眉骨高的原因，你看起来凶凶的，可家里的小鹦鹉你一只也打不过，除了我这个毫无还手能力的人类。而我愿意将之称为“大智若愚”。

医院里，医生说你剩下的日子不多了，这些年你行动越来越慢，你不爱飞，出来不多久就要打盹，像一个十足的老年人了。可我记得，曾经你是如何的精神矍铄，神采奕奕，在你可乐瓶一般大小的身体里，仿佛住着一只猛禽的灵魂。我在你身上看到了：善良、威猛、敦厚、诚实、谦逊诸多品质。笨笨，你知道有多少人爱着你，多少人在云吸你，多少人想扑进你毛茸茸的大胸里（当然也包括我），你是一只拥有“悼词美德”的小鸡。

我唯一的遗憾是，不能和你拥有更多陪伴的时间。我有时想，假如你知道人类的寿命是你的很多倍，你会怎样想呢，会像我们见到那些好几百年的大树一样吗？笨笨，你是飞来的“自来鸟”，我不知道你多大、什么时候出生，看着那些幼年的“笨笨”，我会想象，你小时候是不是也是这幅模样，如果现在的我捡到那时的你，我一定好好保护你，不让你在一群鸟里面抢东西吃。

笨笨，我把每年的8月28日，你飞到我家来的这一天，定为“世界爱笨笨日”，我用小米穗、坚果、水果、小鸟快乐圈给你做了生日蛋糕，以纪念你带给这个世界的快乐和美好，今年的8月28日，会是我们相遇满9年，我多希望你可以在这个世界多呆一会儿。
医生还教了我怎么给你喂药，说治疗肝脏损伤的药都很苦，她给你一口一口喂了进去，后来你全吐出来了，我很难过，我的笨笨，甜蜜的食物才是你最爱的，我记得你很爱吃耙耙柑，我喜欢说，姐姐和笨笨，我们打伙吃一个耙耙柑。我的小鹦鹉，从来都没吃过苦涩的东西。

真的很抱歉，是我的疏忽让你没有得到及时救治，你把自己的病隐藏得好好的，让我这个容易焦虑的人类实打实过了两年好日子，我想这也许是你给我的爱，你再一次，收留了我这个无家可归的人类，虽然我不能真的把头埋到你的胸脯里，可我真切地感受到了你无条件的爱。

笨笨，这些天给你安排了你最喜欢的瓜子、小米穗、苹果、车厘子、橙子、草莓，煮豆子，甜玉米粒……大家看着你吃苹果的劲头，都夸你是只勇敢小鸟，小苹果战士。早上你离开的时候，姐姐觉得客厅的灯异样地亮，我想你是在用这种方式和我告别。希望你没有太多的遗憾。
