What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

We live in interesting times. Friend of mine is a scientist in France. He just got briefing on what to do when traveling to the US. He was told to use an empty, freshly installed laptop with nothing but his presentation on it. Uninstall all messengers and social media. If he has to surrender any of his devices even for a minute, he shall get it checked by the French secret service for back-doors and Trojans.

I guess I rather stay home than going to a conference in the US.

Possible bug in :

* I create an avatar
* I set my avatar in the snac web UI
* I update my avatar (new image, same filename)
* I upload a new version of the avatar to the web UI
* snac still shows the old avatar
* I delete the avatar in the snac ui
* I upload a new version of the avatar to the web UI
* snac still shows the old avatar
* I copy the avatar to a new filename
* I upload the new version with a new filename to the web UI
* The new avatar shows up right away

🤓 If you’re using Kagi, you should take a look at Jason (@jcrabapple) 's themes. They make the experience even cooler.

By now there are three of them (catppuccin (github.com/jcrabapple/kagi-cat), tokyo-day-night (github.com/jcrabapple/kagi-tok), and kanagawa (github.com/jcrabapple/kagi_kan)). Hard to pick one, but I’m going with the new Kanagawa today.

Edit: since I posted, an hour ago, more themes have been launched! They’re on a roll!

Make sure to follow @jcrabapple to get them all.

An iPhone mockup showing Kagi on a browser, with a beautiful looking theme.

I cannot summarize the anti-thought nature of the AI fad more clearly than to note that at the same time Firefox is forcing AI into our browsers, the Firefox spellcheck does not recognize the phrase "convolutional neural network"

A screenshot of the mastodon.social post box. The words "convolve, convolving, convolutional" are entered. All are underlined red.

I’m still reading “abundance” and I’m finding it tough because frankly, I despise all of these people. But the message in some ways feels like what I’ve always believed the far left has offered. Even though I too am critical of fully automated luxury gay space communism

I think another hard part is that traditionally the left has offered more for less, that is, we work less hours for more leisure time, we offer more power to those who have less And the “de” feels conservative, that is, a return to the past, not a vision for a prosperous future

It ends with “We then realised that allowing each point (person) to connect to only at most one other point (marry one other person) is limiting, and now allow literally any combination of lines (marriages) to connect points (people) in any shape imaginable.” of course, no real system bothers :(

Could @ Vivaldi add the ability to import password lists from standardised password export file types? It would make migrating to the app permanently much easier. Also, if you could optimise the app to draw as little power as possible on the iPhone, that would be great. There has been a significant drop in my battery life since using it as my primary browser.
