GTK 4.18.3 is now available; this is a bug fix release of the stable branch of GTK, including fixes for Vulkan, accessibility, introspection annotations, HiDPI GL rendering on Windows, and macOS event handling.

And I also think that the bigger potential comes from apps that combine Lexicons rather than just simple “IG for atproto” or “TikTok for atproto” knockoffs. It’s just so early still.
Which is sorta what I mean by “doesn’t mean it will take off,” I think all of this has *potential* but nothing is ever guaranteed. The social space is *hard*.
… and hopefully also makes things more sticky as a user too. We’ll see! I still use IG more than flashes, mostly out of habit.
If I were to build an IG competitor today, there’d be basically zero posts. But when I sign into flashes, there’s already an endless feed of photos to look at. Stuff for users to engage with. And so that’s a reason for me to build on atproto as an app author.
That is, they won’t care about an “atproto account” at first, but once you’re in the ecosystem, it becomes even easier to try more things, which is nice. But also not the driver of overall adoption. Content is king. And as an app author, building on atproto means access to existing content…

Update: I’ve had the surgery, the lump was bigger than expected so I needed a drain bag after and have stayed in hospital for a few days. The drain is now out, I’ll be out of hospital in today or tomorrow (Sunday or Monday), but I won’t be able to work for at least six weeks.
Update 2: I'm out of hospital, and napping a lot in my own bed; fuzzy headed, slow moving, and aching, but slowly improving.

One thing I will say about this space though: blue sky’s oauth support just landed very recently, and is a bit hard to use still, so the “make an app password” flow is more annoying than this will eventually be.
there's something I find so fun about doing very occasional tech support for family members. yesterday I figured out how to transfer photos from an Android phone to a Macbook (MacDroid!) and it's nice to spend 46 minutes figuring out some computer nonsense because I know it's so much easier for me than it is for them.
