I love this shot courtesy of @roundcrisisroundcrisis (a.k.a Andrea ) 😹 🦙 from my talk yesterday.

To me, truly respecting and honoring diversity in tech means respecting and honoring the vast array of cognitive and neurodiversity that exists in any large group of people.

To build for the future we *will* need to call on diverse minds and that means not using discriminatory and reductive models of human ability that only look at narrow neurotypical "executive function" measures as predictors of potential

A slide screenshot shows a high resolution image of cherry blossoms with text on top of it that reads Cognitive Cherrypicking, and text underneath which reads taking a small piece of evidence wildly out of context and overgeneralizing about it. To the right of the screen is a small video of Cat presenting this talk, looking passionate

Fuck this stinking mouldy terf island. Fuck starmer, fuck the other tories and fuck jk especially.

Dear trans ladies. You are valid, you are a women and you deserve respect and recognition of your human rights. You deserve our love and support and you will always receive it from me, I don’t care about some dickheads’ in wigs in a quaint dusty room opinion about you.

Take care, and I’m here for you however I may help ✊

@stefanoStefano Marinelli that's dangerous…the last several VPS instances I've picked up have all been through LowEnd{Box,Talk}.

But using that to search for my requirements, I'm still getting a pretty good deal on all of them

(if @ieji.de is the brains behind it, it might be helpful to have a third "it depends"-type option for IPv4/IPv6. RackNerd has IPv4 in all locations, but IPv6 in only a subset…I had to choose their California datacenter which had IPv4+IPv6, rather than their geographically-closer-to-me Texas data-center that was IPv4-only.)

My workplace held an AI-generated image contest and I submitted an illustration I drew. Nobody noticed it wasn't AI and I ended up winning.

For the record, I'm not completely against AI - I think it has massive potential in scientific research. We've already been using it here for protein structure and genomic analysis and it's been a powerful tool.

However as an artist, I also feel that it's important to remember that technology should be regarded as a tool to extend our own creativity and capabilities, not replace them.

On a decentralized social network, your government has to go after every independent local server that wants to post the stuff they don't want you to see. And you can always use a foreign server accessing that content on foreign servers that they can't touch. The government has to shut down every way you have to access those servers outside the country.

On , they just have to ask/threaten the company running the relay for the entire service to block access in your country.

I really enjoyed @FelienneFelienne Hermans's narrative about narratives about Computer Science yesterday. She applied some of the ideas presented in the Glaciers, Gender and Science paper (journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/1) to her experiences in the Computer Science / Programming Languages communities. She's also starting a reading club to brainstorm the meaning (and the name?) of the field of "Computer Science".

Felienne presents a slide in which a cartoon version of herself says "'Programming language' is a social construct", and presents a timeline where the 1960s are labelled with two quotes: "Programming requires patience and eye for detail ..." and "Women are naturals at computer programming".Felienne presents her title slide: A narrative about narratives about Computer Science. She drew cute cartoons of her and her collaborator.Felienne presents a slide with a cartoon picture of herself, with a thought bubble that visualises the bias that "hard = value" and "easy != value" through the metaphor of the fact that we know more about remote glaciers high up in mountains than about glaciers that are right next to where people live.

著作権という法的な権利でいえば当たり前なんだよ。人間がジブリ風味に描いても、そのものズバリではない限りは権利侵害ではない。そりゃそうだろ。
