Hm, a new social network from OpenAI?
I'm going to be honest here. I'm a fan of messing around with LLMs. They're fun if more than a little untrustworthy. That being said, I have no interest in a social network from OpenAI. I have no interest in providing training material for free for the next ChatGPT model. The same goes for Llama or Grok.
Really, a contest between Altman and Musk? I'm pretty happy to see either or both lose.
I think I'll just stick to Fosstodon.

Trans people are welcome in my spaces. I am not at all afraid of trans women. I would probably be mildly weirded out by a trans man in a ladies' bathroom, but equally I want him to feel safe, and if he's not feeling safe or is not allowed in the gents', come on in with me.
I hate that this UK supreme court ruling is causing people in the public eye post whatever particular prejudice or bigoted view they have about trans people existing, as if it's now an OK view to hold. Gross.

Since its inception, the CVE Program has operated as a U.S. government-funded initiative, with oversight and management provided under contract. While this structure has supported the program’s growth, it has also raised longstanding concerns among members of the CVE Board about the sustainability and neutrality of a globally relied-upon resource being tied to a single government sponsor.
This concern has become urgent following an April 15, 2025 letter from MITRE notifying the CVE Board that the U.S. government does not intend to renew its contract for managing the program. @cwebberChristine Lemmer-Webber OK, hear me out... maybe it's controlled by a single entity, but that entity could have some kind of "offering" to sell shares of the company to the "public". Like, anyone could buy one! Then, naturally, the VCs will celebrate by purchasing billions of slices of avocado toast and lattes, and that wealth will "trickle-down" to everyone else, who will then buy their own shares. I will take my nobel prize in economics now, thank you.
