does anyone know if there's a way to search a man page for a specific flag? whenever I search for “ -C" I always end up finding a bunch of other mentions of the flag instead of the flag's documentation itself

the only thing I know is to add a bunch of spaces before the -C

I've currently been doing a tonne of work on Doorkeeper, a Mastodon dependency for OAuth, and currently that work is mostly uncompensated.

I'm also doing a reasonable amount of work on the standards side (W3C & IETF), which is also uncompensated.

I'm not making ends meet at the moment, so if you can spare €5-10 a month, please do consider supporting my work on Mastodon, Doorkeeper, standards, and the wider Fediverse.

I'm currently running a deficit of about €1000-1600 per month, which is completely unsustainable.

(there's also one-time, but ongoing support is what enables me to do this important work)

I've just committed and pushed some new features and fixes:

- Re-implement `--config <path>` command-line flag for `bssg.sh`. This allows specifying a custom configuration file (e.g., a site's `config.sh.local`) to override default settings and the standard `config.sh.local` in the BSSG core directory. Useful for managing multiple sites or running commands from the core directory against a specific site context.
- Add support for `BSSG_LCONF` environment variable. If set to a valid configuration file path, it will be used when `--config` is not specified, providing an alternative way to set the site context for a session.
- Add `CACHE_DIR` configuration variable (`config.sh`, default `.bssg_cache`). Allows specifying a custom location for the build cache.
- New configuration option `ARCHIVES_LIST_ALL_POSTS` (in `config.sh`, default `false`). If set to `true`, the main `archives/index.html` page will list all posts chronologically under their respective month links, in addition to the standard year/month navigation.

- The `init` script now adds a `CACHE_DIR` setting to the new site's `config.sh.local`, pointing to `.bssg_cache` within the site's directory (e.g., `/path/to/site/.bssg_cache`). This ensures separate caches for initialized sites.
- Change default answer to 'Yes' (Y) in the `init` script when asking whether to modify the core `config.sh.local` to automatically source the new site's configuration.

alright, did an experiment of posting natively to bsky (not bridged from here) but I have changed my mind and am going back to posting exclusively here and having them bridged via bridgy fed

My direct print sales from tiltedwindmillpress.com use a fulfillment printer, Bookvault. I have no choice on printer, BV is the only realistic choice, nobody else will work.

My store provides invoices for order.

BV will not include commercial invoices in shipments to the EU. Period. Will not do it. This causes customs problems.

I do not sell enough in the EU to qualify for IOSS. Direct print sales were how I hoped to bootstrap myself to that level.

This gives me a choice.

1) Tell buyers to provide the invoice to their customs agency, and put great big warnings in my store about the inconvenience of doing so.

2) Disable print sales to the EU.

EU folks: is #1 reasonable? Or is it just unworkable? I don't live there, have zero clue.

The end goal is, of course, to get IOSS and charge VAT up front in my store. I truly do want to be easy and legal!

👋Hey everybody! I'm new on sonomu.club and i want to do a little of myself:

I'm Philipp von Neumann, a composer-performer of 💻🔊. I'm very much interested in , algorithmic structures and experimental approaches to form.

I'm here to find a community of like-minded people that share similar values🚩🏴‍☠️ and interests.

I'm also a curator of concerts for and i'm always searching for new music.

It would be nice if ... (1/2)

While we can't all be @andreynering, we can create high quality PRs. 💝 Here's what we love about his PR style...

1) He links related issues and discussions, providing clear context when needed.
2) He provides a reason for the change that gives enough information on the root cause to act as a good point of reference in the future.
3) He includes a high-quality image that can be reused.

To create the image, he uses `freeze -c full` giving margins, shadows, and more.

Remember the "You wouldn't steal a car" PSA? Turns out they pirated both the font AND the music. Exhibits:

font info: fontsinuse.com/uses/67480/pira

pirated font embedded in this PDF: web.archive.org/web/2005122320

and about the music: theransomnote.com/music/news/a

EDIT: more context re the composer, music, and royalties; the story is ofc more nuanced and apparently debunked: torrentfreak.com/sorry-the-you

screenshot of piracy PSA PDF opened to view the embedded fonts and the offending font is called XBANDRough

looking at some malware that has a string encryption routine and a string decryption routine

it encrypts a string and immediately decrypts it

the original string is there in the binary

(all these pairs of functions implement the same silly XOR algorithm in slightly different code. yes, i've lifted them to LLVM IR to check if they really do that. yes, they do)

something funny about about the terminal is how there are ALWAYS exceptions

like yesterday I said that the OS is in charge of sending signals when you press `Ctrl+C`, which is mostly true

BUT someone pointed out that if you use kitty, kitty has its own special mechanism for sending signals when you use a keyboard shortcut where it tries to guess the right PID to signal (github.com/kovidgoyal/kitty/bl)

it always feels hard to explain why I still feel comfortable in such a chaotic environment
