I thought I'd try and understand the my dad's Radio4 frequency reference; this is the synthesiser box - at a high level it makes some sense but I'm starting to trace it through; he did a lot of his play builds on heavily reused single sided PCB, using the top as ground. On the right there's a, switchable divider chain using 74HC390's, there looks like a crystal oscillator in the middle using a 74HC00 with a varicap, and on the left hmm a dual opamp which I guess does feedback somehow.

Halara clothing keeps appearing in the online places I frequent where I can't avoid seeing ads, and I find myself tempted.

Has anyone who is some level of plus-sized bought anything from them, and was it any good?

At a site used as a test for deep-sea mining in the 1970s, “the tracks of the 100-tonne machine that was sent down to the seabed are still visible…the impact of mining on some of the wildlife is ongoing."

Even more sobering is that by removing the nodules, which take millions of years to form, the very slow ecosystem recovery will be to a very different state than what was there before.

the thing that's amazing about watching a bittorrent-backed archive take shape is that is works because of not in spite of everyone having a small amount of resources to contribute. A hard drive here, a residential broadband connection there... we're distributing almost a hundred terabytes of data because people decide that something is important to them and take responsibility for it. I'm on a few torrents right now where the original uploader can only upload 100kb/s at a time and loses connections for hours at a time, and the rest of us are just swapping pieces in the mean time catching each other up.

What Ghost is doing at the moment is basically what I had been hoping to find on the Fediverse for quite a while now.

You know Ghost for their blogs/newsletters. Do you know that now, the blogs are connected to the Fediverse, a little bit like Wordpress does with the ActivityPub plugin, or what WriteFreely and MicroBlog also do?

Now, add to this a micro-blogging platform similar to Mastodon and the others (Sharkey, Akkoma, etc) except that both the regular blog and the micro-blogging are under the same account.


The micro-blogging platform is still in beta and lacks a bunch of features, but new are added every week. And when all is said and done, it could simply become one of my main Fediverse accounts (i.e. I could migrate this account there, although right now, it's not playing too too well with Firefish).

I would love to see more Linux desktop users, but people (mostly kids or gamers) who watch PewDiePie will not dump Windows because they want those AAA game titles and apps from Adobe and others unavailable on . Apps are the problem. I’ve been using Linux since the early days, and it is ready for many use cases, especially when privacy is your major concern. Otherwise, you should have the willpower to accept and learn alternative apps.

역시 UI는 너무 어려워... 겨우 뒤에 가려진 요소가 스크롤 안되게 만들기가 이렇게 어렵다니... html에 overflow: hidden을 먹이라는데, MacOS 사파리는 잘 동작하는데, 최소한 iOS사파리에서는 viewport가 정의되어있으면 동작 안한다고...

Those of you who taught yourself to code at a young age, how old were you and what language was it, and on what platform?

How would you suggest replicating the experience for current or future generations?

For me it was BASIC at about 13 years old, but I think it would have been much sooner if I had regular access to a computer sooner. I started on a used Commodore 128D but ended up on a Laser Apple II clone.
